Ambulance Service Case Study

Client Successes: Information Systems Strategy

Ambulance Service

This private ambulance service wanted their web site improved, particularly to generate more overseas business. Lilley Information Systems (LIS) analysed the existing web site, competitor's web sites, current business objectives and operation's procedures. Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) were determined. LIS found that the current web site was a medical portal filled with a considerable amount of useful information to attract people in the medical sector. However, while the private ambulance service was attracting some business, its profile was low because it was categorised with all the other information on the web site. LIS recommended a business and marketing strategy involving two synergistic web sites, the current medical portal and a new separate ambulance service site. The current medical portal would be a separate business or profit centre funded by advertising. While the ambulance service would advertise its service on the medical portal, in a prominent position, with a link to the separate ambulance service site. In addition, the ambulance service site would be marketed separately. The results of this study have given the ambulance service a more effective E-Business strategy to improve their web site and generate more overseas business.

Lighting Manufacturer

This manufacturer of electric light bulbs had undertaken a black spot analysis to identify result areas having the most significant impact on critical success factors and wanted these areas analysed in more detail. Lilley Information Systems carried out an enterprise-wide process analysis spanning a division's 3 factories and marketing arm, and the interfacing group's accounting system and supplier/customer factory network. The study uncovered how functional optimisation by production, marketing and accounts, at the expense of each other, were significantly contributing to the division's loss. This realisation gave the client a much more effective sense of direction, by concentrating first on optimising the business as a whole, rather than the individual parts.

Public Sector Funding Agency

A public sector funding agency had become aware of workflow software but wanted to know if there was a business case for it in their organisation. Lilley Information Systems (LIS) carried out an enterprise-wide study to see if there was a business case for workflow. Potential applications were identified, particularly those that promised the greatest benefits in the shortest time (quick wins). This included analysing the related document management issues of archiving and photocopying for spin-offs, and considering workflow within the total information strategy, covering database integration and groupware. A feasible business case was made, allowing the agency to proceed to take advantage of the benefits of the technology.

Soft Furnishings Retailer

This soft furnishings retailer requested a Feasibility Study to integrate systems due to the addition of a second shop. Lilley Information Systems undertook a process analysis and design as part of the review of existing financial and management control systems. Discoveries included that, while the organisation claimed to be very service oriented, it was not being measured. The findings enabled the client to take a more effective strategic direction to realise their business goals.

Pharmaceutical Wholesaler

For this Pharmaceutical Wholesaler, Lilley Information Systems (LIS) carried out an enterprise wide study into the feasibility of integrating the Surgical and Veterinary business systems with the Pharmaceutical business. LIS then produced Request for Proposals and assisted with System Selection. Systems included; Sales/Purchase Order Processing, Stock Control, Sales/Purchase Ledger, Sales Statistics. Facilities included Multi-Depot and Pass-On. The client benefited from an objective view of their needs, clear specifications and getting the jobs done quicker.

Aviation Authority

An Aviation Authority had been struggling to get accurate and up-to-date information on their private circuits for years. Lilley Information Systems re-engineered the business processes as a Private Circuit Information System saving an estimated £300,000 p.a. This involved integrating and negotiating the requirements of headquarters, divisional engineers and accountants, plus negotiating a better commercial interface with suppliers. It was strategic insofar that it affected virtually every one of the client's services. Apart from saving cash, the client was able to plan and implement the private circuit network more effectively and efficiently.
