A public sector funding agency had become aware of workflow software but wanted to know if there was a business case for it in their organisation. Lilley Information Systems (LIS) carried out an enterprise-wide study to see if there was a business case for workflow. Potential applications were identified, particularly those that promised the greatest benefits in the shortest time (quick wins). This included analysing the related document management issues of archiving and photocopying for spin-offs, and considering workflow within the total information strategy, covering database integration and groupware. A feasible business case was made, allowing the agency to proceed to take advantage of the benefits of the technology.
